Doggy Dogma's Behaviour and Dog Training Experts are here to provide dog owners, like your self, with a new way of living with and understanding your dog, so that you can regain CONTROL of your relationship easily and effectively.
What do you do in a training session?
We offer training in standard packages for puppies, basic obedience, and common dog problems - such as nuisance barking. We also offer a unique tailor-made training program for dog's with multiple behaviour problems, which begins with a free consultation and bonus solutions report - so you can have the confidence of knowing that we understand your problem and know exactly how we can help you, without it costing you a dime!
Each session with a Doggy Dogma's Behaviour and Dog Training Expert covers the four areas of the ABCC's of dog training, Doggy Dogma's unique training philosophy. This means you are not only being shown the how's of training your dog, but you are looking at your relationship with your dog holistically (the what, where, when and whys of dog training).
So what does that mean for you? Well, you could go to a class and teach your dog to sit - all of a sudden, when you are on a walk with your dog and he sees a cat in the distance, in that brief instant, all that class room training is out the door. You say "Sit" and your dog doesn't hear you. You say it again a little louder, maybe you jerk on his lead, he still isn't listening - now what!
With Doggy Dogma, you not only learn to teach your dog to sit, you discover:
- What motivates your dog;
- Where your dog's mind goes when he is stimulated by his environment;
- When is the best time to redirect your dog's attention; and
- Why your dog's behaviour often requires you to do the opposite to what you think you should do.
How does your training work?
Our training works by addressing two criteria:
- You understand your dog - giving you confidence, knowledge and a strong foundation for solutions to dog problems
- Your dog is taught to understand you - giving you control, skills and know-how to apply solutions to dog behaviour problems.
Most other dog trainers only focus on criteria two, and this is why dog's are not listening to their owners outside of the class room, and owners who don't know anything about dogs, their mind-set and their behaviours.
When should I train my dog?
Our training methods are designed around daily activities you are most likely already doing with your dog. Our Doggy Dogma's Behaviour and Dog Training Experts show you how to keep sessions short and sweet, so short we call it - 30 Second Dog Training. This means even if you train your dog 5 times in one day, and you will only have spent 2.5 minutes out of your day on training your dog! Not having time is no longer an excuse to not have a well mannered, well trained pet dog.
Why don't you correct a dog?
We don't recommend correction, because we think that you should mean more to your dog than a mired of noise in the background. The problem with correction is that we over use it, and it is one of the top reasons that dogs don't listen to their owners. As we tell you puppy owners - if you are going to No, UhUh or Baa your dog every-time it does something wrong - you may as well record it and play it back on a continuous loop. You'll get tired of saying it - and the only thing your dog will learn is to tune you out.
At Doggy Dogma we want you to have a dog that is willing to listen to you! There is a mistake in our thinking that a dog needs to know when it has done something wrong - in fact a dog need to know what to do, and when it has done what it should do, the dog needs to be praised for it.
Think back to when you were learning to spell, and you made a mistake in your spelling. Your exam would come back with a red mark next to the misspelled word, and no other feed back. You know you did wrong, but you don't know what it was that you were suppose to do right! You still haven't learnt to spell the word you got wrong!
When it comes to correcting dogs - we lack feedback and context to the dog. Your Doggy Dogma Behaviour and Dog Training Consultants will work with you to strengthen your dogs behaviours that you want to see, so that you can redirect and reduce the behaviours that you don't want to see.
How do people and dog's communicate with one another?
At Doggy Dogma, our Behaviour and Dog Training Consultants will show you how to begin the process of communicating with your dog.
Often people are told to do something with or to their dog under the premise of “it is what another dog would do” or “this is how a mother dog corrects a pup”. These “facts” fail to recognise, 1. we are not dogs, we don’t understand their communication patterns, nor can we adequately copy them, and 2. A mother dog wouldn’t correct a pup over 4 months of age with the same action, without the possibility of retaliation.
What people need to focus on is teaching their dog English (or any other language) as a second language. All dogs need to learn how to be bilingual, speaking both dog and human, so that they can get by in our world. We believe marker based reinforcement training, that you learn with Doggy Dogma, is the quickest and most effective way to teach your dog to understand you.
Isn't food just bribing my dog?
Some people claim that using food to reward their dog is just bribing their dog. Do you think the same people feel that when they get paid from their job if they are just being bribed with money to be there? The simple truth is that when someone is bribing their dog with food to get a dog to sit, for example, they will most likely never be able to get their dog to sit without food or to sit for longer than 2.5 seconds.
When you understand the role of food or any reward in dog training, then you see that the reward (be it food, attention or play) is just the final part in a line of communication between you and your dog. The line of communication is along the line of you ask, the dog complies, you acknowledge the dog has complied and the dog is rewarded for doing as you asked.
Just as no one sits there and pays you 25c per minute that you work, once a dog knows what you are asking for, the way you reward your dog changes. Just as we all like to receive acknowledgement and appreciation for our work (and we deserve too), so does your dog.
Your Doggy Dogma Behaviour and Dog Training Expert will work with you to help you understand the difference between bribing and rewarding your dog, and give you the know-how to make rewarding your dog the most fast, effective and easy way to see the results you want to see.
